About us
Purolett combustion toilets are manufactured by Purolettfabriken AB in Älvsjö, Stockholm. The company provides the market’s only service-free combustion toilet equipped with dual heating elements. The founder, Nils-Erik Gullaksen—known as ”Nisse”—is the man behind the innovative mechanism that makes Purolett the most durable combustion toilet on the market. Our History
It all began in 2012 when I was first asked to work with combustion toilets. Initially, it was a side project, but interest grew rapidly.
In 2015, I took a decisive step and decided to develop a solution of my own. To ensure I did it the right way, I started as a dealer, installer, and repairman for two other brands. This gave me invaluable experience and a clear picture of what worked well—and what didn’t. Over three years, I dedicated approximately 3,000 working hours to development and engineering.
By the end of 2017, the first finished toilet was ready. Sales began on a small scale in 2018 to ensure everything functioned as intended. Once the results confirmed the quality, the business truly took off.
Our Philosophy & Technology
My vision was formed quite early: a simple, reliable design where everything is easy to understand, repair, and maintain. A concrete example is the heating elements. While other solutions often fail completely if an element breaks, I chose to work with two—to minimize the risk of downtime. The same philosophy permeates the entire construction: if something should happen, it should be easy to fix, even without specialist knowledge.
A vital part of the development has been questioning unnecessary complexity. For example, we use a timer instead of a traditional circuit board. Experience has shown that circuit boards often cause toilets to run too long, consume unnecessary electricity, and ultimately become more complicated than they need to be. Simplicity wins—every time.
I have also placed great emphasis on collaborating with local and reliable producers: All sheet metal is bent, punched, and welded by Chabo Produkter in Vallentuna. The plastic top is manufactured by Stegoplast in Nyköping. The heating elements come from Skåne. Overheating protection and other components are supplied from Italy, and cooling protection is manufactured in Ukraine. My ambition has always been to grow steadily, build a truly great product, and offer excellent service.
That is why I personally answer the phone—even on weekends when I am available. Today, our combustion toilets are found in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Spain, Portugal, and Greenland. They are used in wind turbines in the North Sea, in construction trailers, and by the Swedish Armed Forces. The reason is simple: reliability and simplicity. In locations where you cannot easily send out a technician—such as out at sea or within high-security operations—the product must work and be maintainable on-site. And that is exactly what our toilet is built for.
